Protector of the deceased, the lioness deity who became a cat Goddess, sometimes also depicted in the form of a cat-headed woman. She was the daughter of “Ra” the sun God, and also his cat who believed to have defeated his serpent enemy Apophis, who was always trying to attack “Ra”. Bastet’s name was found on the facade of the valley temple of Khafre near the Sphinx as the Goddess representing northern Egypt. She stayed as a popular Goddess even during the Graeco-Roman period. Amulets of Bastet were very common as she is viewed as the protector Goddess against evil and forces of the dark. Bastet is sure one of the most known cat related deities in ancient Egypt till now.
