If you know how ancient Egypt was all about the afterlife and proper preparation for it, then you will know Anubis, the funerary deity and jackal God of embalming. Anubis was known even before Osiris overshadowed him and became God of the dead, he was the one in charge of preparing kings and queens for the afterlife. Mostly depicted in the form of a jackal (dog-like), or a jackal-headed man while performing embalming rituals on the body of a deceased royalty, or leading the spirit of the deceased to Osiris for judgment in the afterlife. According to myth, Anubis was the one who prepared the body of Osiris for the afterlife and mummified it, hence his association with the embalming process and the eternal Egyptian mummies.
Note: In The Mummy Returns, the movie’s plot based on a deal made between Anubis and the Scorpion King.
